3D printing from imaging datasets — another opportunity for radiologists?

The technology behind three-dimensional (3D) printing has developed at an exponential rate over the last few years. As a result there has been a rapid rise in the number of papers describing the application of the technology to the 3D printing of radiology datasets to produce physical models of already imaged anatomical fields. Such models are increasingly finding use in several applications, ranging from anatomy education through to personalized pre-operative presentation

of surgical objectives.
