The head of Bracco Imaging’s R&D Fabio Tedoldi shares some highlights of their collaboration with the Dutch company Zereau. Their project ‘Water’ allows institutions to sequester contrast agents from designated liquid waste streams, keeping them out of the natural environment.
This initiative also focuses on recovering valuable components—iodine and gadolinium—from the contrast agents, which can then be repurposed for future use. The ongoing 18‑month pilot phase, involving several hospitals, will provide essential data to determine the scalability and overall viability of this innovative approach within a circular economy framework.
