The Israeli-based company InSightec
recently announced that Dr Robert Sigal, has joined them as President and CEO.
The company was founded in 1999 by GE Healthcare (then GE Medical Systems) and
Elbit Medical Imaging and its activities are solely concentrated on the field
of focussed ultrasound, such as the development of MRI-guided focussed

routine clinical procedures. Many observers consider focussed ultrasound to be

applicability to the non-invasive treatment of several conditions. The company
has developed a system, known as Exablate, which is approved for the treatment
of uterine fibroids as well as for palliative care and pain relief in cases of
bone metastases. Development is underway to apply the technology to
neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease as well as to certain brain
tumors The company’s ExAblate Neuro system has received the CE Mark for the
treatment of neurological disorders such as essential tremor, Parkinson’s and
neuropathic pain.
Previously Robert Sigal served most
recently as the General Manager of GE Healthcare France, the business unit
responsible for all GE healthcare business in France with annual sales of over
$400 million. During Sigal’s medical career he served as the chairman of
radiology at Institute Gustave Roussy (IGR), the largest comprehensive cancer
center in France and was also the Executive Medical Director of IGR. An
Insightec spokesman said “Robert’s unique background combines first-hand
extensive medical experience as well as business leadership in the field of
medical equipment which is of particular significance for InSightec His
clinical knowledge, especially in oncology and neuroradiology, will
significantly strengthen our ability to penetrate into new markets and
