In a re-affirmation of the company’s commitment to the analog market Siemens has introduced a new analog mammography system, — the Mammomat Select — at the recent RSNA meeting. The new system is designed to deliver high quality regardless of budget restraints in hospitals with high throughput, as well as smaller clinics. Unusual for systems in the lower price segment, Mammomat Select is equipped with a touchscreen that guides clinical personnel through the screening process thanks to simple and intuitive operation. The system also supports isocentric movement so that the height of the detector does not need to be reset between each imaging phase, which reduces the time needed for patient screening. The OpDose application enables the radiation dose to be individually set for each patient – without compromising image quality. The appropriate parameters can be selected in accordance with the patient’s breast size and density. Mammomat Select can be connected to a computed radiography (CR) system via an additional interface to enable an upgrade to digital mammography with storage phosphor plates.
