Whole-body CT in hemodynamically unstable severely injured patients: harm or benefit?

An increasing number of trauma centres use whole-body computed tomography as a standard diagnostic method during the early resuscitation phase of severely injured patients. Recently, it has been demonstrated that integration of whole-body computed tomography into early trauma care significantly increased the probability of survival of hemodynamically stable patients with polytrauma. This article introduces the concept of using whole-body CT even in hemodynamically unstable major trauma patients.
