The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has announced a new milestone in its organizational development, surpassing its previous membership record and reaching a total of 149,167 members in 2025. The achievement reflects continued growth in the global radiology community and reinforces ESR’s position as the largest radiological society worldwide.
According to the society, members now represent 192 countries, underlining ESR’s international reach and its role as a unifying platform for radiology professionals across regions and healthcare systems. The sustained increase in membership aligns with ESR’s strategic focus on education, professional advocacy, and inclusive global engagement in medical imaging.
Education, Advocacy, and Global Engagement
Over the past year, ESR has expanded its portfolio of initiatives designed to address evolving professional and societal priorities in radiology. One such initiative is the Green ID certification, which recognizes and promotes environmentally responsible practices in radiology departments worldwide. In parallel, ESR INSPIRE was introduced as a volunteering platform for radiologists interested in contributing their expertise to community-focused initiatives.
In 2025, the society also released new resources to support radiologists at different stages of their careers. The ESR Modern Radiology eBook became available in multiple languages, aiming to provide accessible, up-to-date educational content for an international audience. In addition, the ESR announced the upcoming launch of the ESR App, intended to improve access to society services, updates, and professional resources.
Leadership Perspective on Membership Growth
“Our growing membership is a testament to the trust radiologists place in the ESR as a cornerstone of professional development and community,” said Andrea Rockall, Chair of the ESR Board of Directors. “This milestone reflects the collective dedication of thousands of experts committed to advancing patient care and shaping the future of imaging. We are proud to support their work and to continue broadening opportunities for collaboration worldwide.”
The ESR emphasized that its expanding network reflects both the increasing demands placed on radiology professionals and the importance of shared standards, education, and representation at an international level.
Member Benefits and Professional Support
Key benefits continue to attract new members to the society. These include reduced registration fees for the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), access to a wide range of educational programs offered through the European School of Radiology (ESOR), and a subscription to European Radiology, the society’s flagship peer-reviewed journal.
