Esaote Joins Midea Healthcare
Midea Group has completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in Esaote S.p.A., bringing the Italian medical imaging company into its Healthcare Division.
Esaote will continue to operate as an independent global medical equipment company headquartered in Genoa, Italy, with research and development (R&D) and manufacturing facilities in Italy and the Netherlands. Franco Fontana has been confirmed as CEO by the new shareholders and will continue to lead the company.
Complementary Medical Imaging Portfolios
Midea’s medical imaging portfolio includes:
- digital radiography (DR),
- high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),
- computed tomography (CT) and
- digital subtraction angiography (DSA).
Esaote’s portfolio includes:
- ultrasound systems,
- open and dedicated MRI systems and
- medical IT solutions.
Esaote said the complementary capabilities would create opportunities for synergies between the two businesses. The acquisition is also intended to strengthen Midea’s position in the global medical imaging market.
Investment in R&D and International Growth
According to Esaote, the partnership will give the company access to Midea’s broader technology ecosystem, complementary imaging capabilities and larger innovation platform.
Esaote expects targeted investments in R&D, operations and manufacturing capabilities to support its growth. The company also sees opportunities to advance product development, shorten innovation cycles and explore new applications and market segments.
For Midea, the transaction adds Esaote’s expertise in ultrasound, open and dedicated MRI systems, and medical IT solutions to its existing imaging portfolio.

Fontana described the acquisition as an opportunity to build on Esaote’s international expansion and recognition among clinical and scientific communities: "This transaction sets an exciting new era for Esaote.
