AI-Supported Imaging for Women’s Health
GE HealthCare has introduced the Voluson Performance series, the newest addition to its women’s health ultrasound portfolio. The Voluson Performance 18 and 16 are designed to deliver detailed, consistent imaging while integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and automation tools to streamline workflow and assist clinicians in making confident decisions.
“The Voluson Performance series builds on a legacy of innovation, combining Voluson imaging technology with intuitive design and AI-powered tools designed to simplify exams, save time and support efficient, consistent care delivery,” said Gerald Seifriedsberger, General Manager, Women’s Health Ultrasound at GE HealthCare. “By putting powerful, advanced solutions in the hands of providers, we’re helping expand access to high-quality women’s health imaging and advance a healthier future for women.”
With maternal mortality remaining a global challenge—an estimated 700 women die daily from maternal causes, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)—the systems aim to address the growing need for timely, high-quality diagnostics in women’s health.
Advanced Tools and Workflow Enhancements
The Voluson Performance series supports clinicians in obtaining clear, high-resolution images while minimizing manual adjustments. Key imaging features include:
- AutoLive for automatic gain adjustments and Shadow Reduction for improved image uniformity.
- A comprehensive probe portfolio for 2D and 3D imaging, including wireless Vscan Air probes for bedside and interventional use.
- An updated touch interface and “Hey Voluson” voice control for hands-free operation and reduced keystrokes.
Built-in AI and automation tools assist with measurements, anatomy identification, and reporting—reducing exam times and supporting clinicians across experience levels.
The SonoLyst suite identifies fetal anatomy, annotates standard views, and automates measurements, reducing keystrokes by up to 65% during second-trimester exams. Meanwhile, SonoPelvicFloor provides guided workflows that improve consistency and reproducibility, completing pelvic exams up to 75% faster, according to GE HealthCare data.
Clinical Insights and Availability
“As a gynecologist specializing in reproductive medicine, the Voluson Performance series makes it remarkably simple to do a 3D scan,” said Dr. Arne van Heusden, Gynecologist, The Randstad, Netherlands. “My colleagues are surprised by how easily we can do 3D imaging, and the system is extremely intuitive, which is one of its best features.”
The newly U.S. FDA 510(k)-cleared and CE-marked systems will be showcased at the 35th ISUOG World Congress on Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Cancun, Mexico, and are available in key international markets.
