German MedTech company AB-CT – Advanced Breast-CT has entered the Australian market with the installation of its nu:view spiral breast CT system at Malvern Breast Imaging in Melbourne, marking the country’s first deployment of the technology.

The system, distributed locally by EPIC-X, is approved for clinical use by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and represents a further step in AB-CT’s international expansion.

The nu:view system is designed specifically for female breast imaging, delivering superimposition-free three-dimensional images without breast compression. The technology combines spiral CT acquisition with photon-counting detectors, enabling high-resolution volumetric imaging while maintaining radiation exposure within the range of conventional mammography.

Dedicated 3D breast imaging without compression

The system performs examinations in the prone position and captures full breast images within seconds, avoiding the compression associated with conventional mammography.

By eliminating tissue overlap and providing true isotropic 3D resolution, the technology aims to improve diagnostic accuracy, particularly for dense breast tissue and complex clinical findings.

The system can achieve voxel sizes down to 90 micrometres, supporting the detection of small abnormalities such as microcalcifications.

First installation at specialist breast imaging centre

The first Australian installation was completed at Malvern Breast Imaging, a specialist radiology practice focused exclusively on breast health. The clinic is led by Dr Narges Sobhani, MD, FRANZCR, and offers diagnostic services including digital mammography, breast ultrasound and MRI, with a focus on early detection and patient-centred care.

Bernd Schleicher, CEO of AB-CT – Advanced Breast-CT, commented: “We are grateful for the outstanding cooperation with Dr. Narges Sobhani and her team at Malvern Breast Imaging and our partners at EPIC-X. With nu:view, we offer a unique breast CT based on our guiding principle of “Thinking Women!”. The system was designed specifically for high-precision breast imaging, giving women greater confidence in the accuracy of their breast diagnostics. The launch in Australia represents an important milestone in our ongoing international growth.”

Chandrashekhar Bapat and Prakash Subbarao, Directors of EPIC-X, added: “We are proud to introduce nu:view to the Australian market in partnership with AB-CT and Malvern Breast Imaging. This first installation expands women’s access to dedicated spiral breast CT technology and supports high-quality, patient-focused breast diagnostics.”

Growing adoption of spiral breast CT technology

The Melbourne launch was accompanied by educational events for referring clinicians and general practitioners, focusing on the clinical role of spiral breast CT within modern diagnostic pathways.

AB-CT’s nu:view system is already in clinical use at university hospitals and radiology practices in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and South Korea, as the company continues to expand internationally.
